CVS ~ $0.00 OOP Trip! Saved $42.79!

I started out today with $19.00 in Extra Care Bucks from the last trip and didn't spend any money out of pocket. I left with $20.00 in Extra Care Bucks (ECB) so basically, this trip yielded me a $1.00 profit! I had my scenario all written out before I went in today and had my 25% off coupon from the ad in this last Sunday's paper. The % off coupons work only on items that are not on sale. I have always understood that the % off coupons will work on items that yield ECBs but today, my coupon didn't work! Does anyone know what could have happened? I'm still scratching my head on that one. But, it pays to be a great customer because the nice cashier went ahead and deducted $5.14 off my total, which was 25%. :) Here's what I did, all in one transaction:

(1) Puffs Plus Lotion, on sale for $0.88
Less $1.00 CVS coupon from the red machine (RM)
= $0.12 Money Maker (MM)

(1) Edge Gel - $3.19
Less $1.00 off manufacturer coupon (MQ)
Less 25% ($0.80)
= $2.39, Received $2.00 in ECB

(1) Gillette Venus Razor @ $6.99
Less $4.00 MQ
Less 25% ($1.75)
= $1.24, Received $2.00 in ECB

(1) CVS Men's 5 Blade Razor @ $6.79
Less $5.00 CVS RM coupon
Less 25% ($1.70)
= $0.09, Received $2.00 in ECB

* Used a $3.00 off $10.00 CVS RM coupon for the razor and shave gel purchase

(2) Colgate Optic White Mouthwash @ $4.39
(1) Colgate Optic Cool Mint Toothpaste @ $5.49
(1) Colgate Total Mouthwash @ $5.79
Total Colgate purchase was $20.06 to qualify for the ECB
Less 25% ($5.01)
Less $3.00 CVS RM coupon for oral care
Less (4) $1.00 off MQ for Colgate mouthwash
Less (1) $0.75 off MQ for Colgate toothpaste
= $7.30, Received $10.00 in ECB

(1) CVS Brand 24 pack of water @ $2.22

Total before coupons: $40.13
Less CVS RM coupons, 25% off & MQ: ($25.89)
Used $15.00 in ECB
Paid $0.00 OOP and received $16.00 in ECB for the next trip!
